Alluette Jones-Smalls began the concept and venture that is now Alluette's Caf├® in 1993 in Charleston, SC.
Line Street Grill and Grocery started an idea that is today the focus of holistic soul food. Rooted in fresh organic healthy local produce and ingredients, your food is prepared as it is ordered using extra virgin olive oil, herbs and spices instead of heavy salt and animal fats. It was at the Line Street Grill and Grocery that Alluette was introduced to Joseph Fields Farms, a local farm which is now one of SCÔÇÖs certified organic farms. She began buying her organic produce from him and continues to buy from him as she did at her other locations.
A focus in cuisine that is Gullah, Gheechi, Soul and southern was featured at the Patio Tea Room located in downtown Charleston. Holistic soul food began its roots in a modest facility that accommodated 100 persons. Entertainment, as well as the soul-inspired southern food, ruled night and day. After cancer nearly ended Alluette's life, the concept of food preparation using fresh products and fresh ingredients free of harmful chemicals became even more important to her. With that in mind The Sandwich Shoppe on St. Helena Island, SC was the next to offer her inspired soul food items. Her famous chicken salad is legendary and talked about throughout the low country.
After that came Hampton, SC and Alluette's Restaurant and Art Gallery, upscale and soul inspired cuisine ÔÇÿthat is good for you and good for your soulÔÇÖ. AlluetteÔÇÖs served lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch in an upscale casual environment. The main dining room seated 125 people and the patio comfortably seated 30 guests. An added feature was the private dining room which accommodated up to 20 people and served as a conference room for companies hoping to attain a degree of exclusivity.
Connected to Alluette's was Maggie's Tavern which offered a full bar and seating for up to 85 persons. All totaled Alluette's accommodated and served up to 255 guests! Live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights were standard in the Hampton location.
insideshrimpAlluette and her family made the decision to return to Charleston so that Alluette could bring her concept home. AlluetteÔÇÖs Caf├® at 80 A Reid Street is AlluetteÔÇÖs newest venture. Alluette prepares the food as it is ordered. You may have to wait a little longer for that freshly prepared food, but once you take your first taste, you will be glad you came. AlluetteÔÇÖs Caf├® is a ÔÇ£No PorkÔÇØ restaurant. There are daily specials for lunch and dinner. Alluette has an ÔÇ£always on the menuÔÇØ section including brown rice and organic tofu for the vegan and vegetarian diner. No sugar is used in the preparation of any food or beverage. Seafood is bought daily from local vendors. Joseph Fields is still a main supplier of seasonal organic produce. AlluetteÔÇÖs Caf├® is a ÔÇ£Fresh on the Menu Certified SC GrownÔÇØ restaurant.
The dining room here is small and comfortable. Local artistsÔÇÖ works adorn the salmon colored walls and enhance the warm feeling of the caf├®. A small patio is encircled with flowering plants, herbs such as basil and rosemary and even some pepper plants.
AlluetteÔÇÖs Caf├® is a one of a kind eating establishment. We offer top quality Certified Angus Beef burgers, fresh, local shrimp with no sulfites, fresh local fish and soon will have a full service bar.
With ongoing performances of music, poetry and theater, AlluetteÔÇÖs' mission is to be an entertainment center to accommodate all.
