Uganda

Uganda is a densely populated country in East Africa. The official languages are English and Swahili, and Luganda is the most commonly spoken local tongue. There are over 30 ethnic groups, and Ugandan music and culture are varied as a result. The terrain is characterized by waterways and fairly high elevation. Overall the climate is equatorial, but it varies. Native animal species include the chimpanzee, the Acuminate bush viper, and Burchell’s zebra. Mainstays of the economy include minerals and exports like coffee. Oil and gas might have the potential to boost income significantly.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is apparently the latest and greatest place to see mountain gorillas, and a great deal of other plant and animal life, including many exotic birds. Kibale Forest National Park is where the chimpanzees are. The Kasubi Tombs in Kampala are mausoleums for the kabakas (rulers of the Bugunda people). Here, the architecture is imposing and traditional culture is all around.

Potatoes, yams, and corn are popular starchy staples. Some of the peoples consume rice or chapati breads. Typical vegetables include an eggplant called nakati, greens including the amaranth plant, and mushrooms.
Beef, goat, chicken, and fish (sometimes dried) are commonly eaten. A simple, healthy meal could consist of ugali (a thick corn porridge) with kale or collard greens. Samusa is a fried pastry with a savory filling, just like the Indian samosa. Indian culture is a big influence in Uganda, and there are Indian restaurants with vegetarian items. Want a drink? Chai is regular tea, kawa is coffee, and pombe and lubisi are locally fermented beers made with ingredients like millet and bananas. Maybe the gin has banana in it too, because you can have a yellow kind.
